One day I sat down to write out an informational Instagram caption. The problem was that no matter how much I worded and re-worded my caption I just couldn’t get it right…
It was too long and too in depth and too much like a…BLOG! “That’s it,” I thought to myself, “It’s time to make that blog.”
Funnily enough, ever since blogs became a thing in the 00’s I have wanted to have one of my own. Since I also enjoy writing long, educational posts on Instagram, it seemed like logically and organically the next step for me. After spending the last few years (Years!) trying to create the “perfect” blog, I realised it doesn’t need to be perfect. This blog only needs to have content that matters to me.
So here goes…
We’ve all joked about how Googling a simple symptom like a cough will bring up extreme search results telling you something along the lines of a deathly illness. Well, body piercing isn’t immune to this either. It only takes a simple search to find some pretty absurd myths and misinformation!
I realised long ago that I can’t erase all the incorrect, out dated and sometimes even harmful piercing information on the internet. Instead, I have always tried to cut through that noise with with up to date, logical and educated information. I hope that this blog can help to do that, and it can be somewhere you can count on for interesting and informative piercing content.
It’s really important to me that people who get piercings have accurate information. I enjoy collecting that information, and presenting it to people in a way that is easy to digest and understand. After all, not all of us are experts and sometimes we just need to know what the hell is going on with our piercing, or why our piercer told us not to do something… If you came here from my social media, you’re probably already familiar with the way I like to write and share. If you’re new here, hello and welcome to my blog!
Anyway, hi!
If you don’t know me, my name is Suzanne! I’ve spent my life in love with body piercing. I could tell you stories upon stories from my childhood and adolescence about all of the trouble and the beauty that piercing has gotten me into over the years. Let’s just start with a random day in the yard at school when I was 9 years old… As an older girl walked by I noticed she had three earlobe piercings in each of her ears. Three! It was without a doubt, the coolest thing I had even seen in my life. I asked my parents for a second pair of ear piercings for my 10th birthday, and to my surprise they agreed. Oh did I feel like the coolest kid on the planet after doing that! From that moment on, I was completely and utterly hooked.
I should probably tell you some of the boring stuff too… After what felt like a lifelong love of body piercing, I began my career in 2012. Fresh out of high school I launched myself into the piercing industry with everything I had, and I am so glad that I did. Since then I have created an amazing and fulfilling career for myself. I now work at and manage The Piercing Urge, which is one of Melbourne’s oldest and most respected body piercing studios (Seriously, this place is older than me!) I am also a member of the Association of Professional Piercers and have had the opportunity to attend many international conferences. More recently I have become a board member for the Australasian United Professional Piercers, where I can help contribute to positive change and betterment of the Australasian piercing community. And this is only the beginning…
But on that note…
I would hope that nobody takes my written word as piercing gospel. It’s important to realise that my words are only a collection of my own thoughts, research and experience. While there are many things about piercing that are factual, there are also many things that are experience based and will vary slightly from piercer to piercer. In addition to that, body piercing is forever changing, and as piercers we are always learning. Something I write today might not be as accurate in a years time. The beauty of you being here with me though, is that we get to go on this journey together.
As much as this blog is for me, it’s really mostly for you! Clients, piercing enthusiasts, piercers, apprentices and hopeful piercers, friends, family, and even the haters, I welcome all of you here to my page! I am so grateful you took the time to read the first article on my blog today. I hope you stick around so we can learn and share some amazing things about piercing. Welcome to my blog!
Love,
Piercer Suzanne
